There’s an odd fluttering at my heart; my recollections are rising confused again-I can write no extra. I tell you once more, we’re linked collectively for life; I can not go away you if I would. The mist was thickening again, however thickening now in clouds that parted and altered minute by minute, beneath the affect of the sunshine behind them.
The shock of that sight must have paralysed inside me the facility of remembering what followed it; for I can recall nothing, after looking on the emptiness of the rock under, besides that I crouched on the ledge below my ft, to save myself from falling off it-that there was an interval of oblivion-and that I appeared to awaken once more, as it were, to the thundering of the water within the abyss. Halfway up, I stopped at a broad resting-place; and found that I need to proceed slightly, both to the fitting or to the left, in a horizontal route, before I might simply get larger. I regarded first to the left, to see where I could get good foothold-then to the suitable, towards the outer sides of the riven rocks shut at hand. I started to climb to the higher range of rocks virtually at the same spot by which I had descended from them-judging by the close thunder of the water in the chasm.
